Big Give Christmas Challenge 2025
In the last 12 months there have been 444 reported cases of ill-health (66% from girls) directly related to the toilets at the Sendo Primary School. This in a school of 486 students. This is unacceptable and the parents, the teachers and the students want that figures to be ZERO.

Toilets can either be something you never think about or something that is a constant worry - we all want the first.

When students fear using the toilet they eat less and they drink less - this leads to loss of energy and can lead to dehydration and urinary tract infections, which is VERY unpleasant indeed.
Why are they fearing using the toilets?
They are dark, dirty, smelly.
They are hard to clean.
They have no running water.
As long drops overtime the cement erodes and can floor can collapse.
They provide no space for girls to safely manage their periods.
Bats live in the rafters and rats are often seen.
The walk way outside the toilet are open to the rains and so often flood
The old toilets were never designed with the users in mind and the students were never consulted.
Mikuyu Tanzania sits with the children and they tell us what they need and together we have created a design that suits their needs.
