Farming for regeneration
When the households have poor food and income security they are focused on that more than their child’s education and so household poverty is a barrier that prevents young people accessing a quality education. It is for this reason that Mikuyu Tanzania is focusing on sustaianbele livelihoods alongside education.
There are some major challenges being faced by farmers including conflcit of land use between riculturalists and pastorialists, a lack of best practice of farming techniques which contribute to soil degradation and exhaustion.
We have been working with the local farmers, the ward and town agricultrual officers and with Impact Lead Tanzania and Friends in Development (FIDE) to look at how we might work together to support farmers in our target communiites to overcome these challagnes
Building on a foundation of practical exposure through learning visits and engagement with proven models in sustainable agriculture, our strategy integrates capacity development, farmer-led innovation, participatory demonstration plots, phased community rollout, robust M&E, inclusive stakeholder collaboration, sustainability planning, risk management and good governance. It aligns with both the Tanzania Governments Vision 2050 and their National Ecological Organic Agriculture Strategy by promoting co-production, institutional and NGO capacity strengthening, and creating a scalable model for long-term impact and community resilience.
