Farming for Regeneration - April 2026 - Service Level Providers
A Service Level Provider (SLP) is the name given to those people who are making and selling organic inputs that will help to address the soil exhaustion, the microorganism imbalances and control the pests.
Five youths from the ChemChem community were selected to attend 15 days of intensive training with SJS Organics where they learnt these skills, alongside ILT’s CASO and Mel Officer. Sadly the Village and Ward Agricultural Officers, who were invited, were unable to attend. These five youths will be the SLP.
The youths are now designing a patch of land to help them to create the lotions and potions and other materials they need to make the inputs.
The aim is for them to make the inputs and to then sell them to the Lead Farmers on the demonstration plot who will be able to demonstrate their effectiveness. When the farmer field school start and the community are invited to come and see what is being done, they will be impressed to want to both follow what we are doing and buy the inputs. Thus kick starting a new livelihood stream for the youths, which has the potential to grow as they start to supply all over Babati.
Engaging youth in agriculture is a fantastic way to root them to their community and for others to see that farming has fantastic potential if different farming approaches are engaged with.
