Professor Mike Hodd RIP (Trustee 2007-2020)
We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mike in October 2022.
Mike was a quiet yet towering presence in the early days of our charity. As a professor at Westminster University he was my International Development lecturer. He had a wealth of experience and wisdom which he quietly shared with a dry wit.
When Clive and I approached him with the idea for Livingstone Tanzania Trust, he was happy to put his name to it but asked to remain in the background, offering advice and guidance. I often sat with him and Angela in his flat, enjoying a lunch and sharing challenges we had and listen to his thoughts as he gently explained how I might do things differently. He was my elder and when he was impressed with progress, it meant the world to me, his praise meant the most because he understood what obstacles will have been overcome to create success.
Mike was always amused by the Swahili word “Hodi”, which is what you say when entering someone’s homestead to announce yourself as there is not always a door to knock on…. “Hodi,. hodi, hodi ……. “
Mike wore many hats and had many interests and we celebrate him and miss him, but find peace in knowing he had a life well lived. Thank you Mike.
