Sendo Toilets and the Big Give

When toilets are dark, dirty, smelly, lack privacy, are open to the elements they are dens of disease and ought not be used.

The toilets at the Sendo Primary school fall into this category and it impacts children’s health, their confidence, their attendance and ultimately their academic performance and their life chances.

Mikuyu Tanzania and the Big Give ran a successful fundraising campaign, which is further enhanced by grants from Trusts and Foundation , and in January 2026 work starts to build new toilets, ones that are student approved, that are cleanable, covered, with hand washing facilities, disabled facilities and suitable space for girls to manage their periods and maintain their dignity.
